In the end though, it still comes down to the consumer choice. Believe it or not, some people would probably find the Shure's to be nasty for their tastes. I myself am a BIG AKG and Sennheiser person. And while I can't speak ok behalf of the Bose in-ear headphones because I've never tried them, I personally find the on-ear headphones to be exceptional.
The point of this blog post was just my frustration with people trying to feel as though they know what's best for everyone else -- when in the end, when you've tried the rest, and you find that you end up liking the more controversial item, why should anyone stop you when you've made the best decision for yourself?

I stopped telling my friends what to do with the things they want to buy because I realized my criticisms of their purchases made me look like a pretentious asshole.

I cal BS on this. I have tried Shure Earphones (SCL2 model) at the same price point as the Bose In Ear model and the shure blew them away. The Bose are built with many flaws which they have tried to fix by re-releasing them. They have way too much bass, not enough clarity, and don't isolate. Bose makes a ton of money off of people who are first try and get a better sound from stock and it does a good job at this but they are not the best for the price. The only thing I can say about Bose is that they make very comfortable earphones. Go with Shure, Ultimate Ears, Sennheiser, Grado, or AKG, much better.

I tried a pair of Bose at the local Apple Store here in Rome, i wanted to buy them before i knew what brand was it, after that i checked the price... 150€! it was waaay too high for me :P and then i bought 40€ Sennheiser PX100 because i've read many reviews online, claiming that they were way superior of any bose product around 150€... well, it's just not true, PX100 are the best headphones for that price, but can't really beat "anything else" like most people say.
You are totally right.
There's only one thing to do: TRY IT YOURSELF.
